A coalition of NGOs led by Empathy Driven Women International Initiative EDWIIN puts smiles on the faces of IDP on Sunday, 14 March 2021, in the bid to celebrate International Women’s day and mother’s day.

These women thought beyond the regular gatherings and conferences that characterize the annual event to celebrate with vulnerable young women and women in general in the Internally Displaced Persons, IDP camp. They are joining forces with The Navigators Nigeria who has been working in various humanitarian capacities to effect impactful projects.

Amongst the leading NGOs are the U.S based Achana legacy foundation, Shogbonyo Foundation. Hospital for humanity, and Centre for Poverty Reduction. From the Nigerian team are women in business Arena, Reedges collections, Standard Bearers School Lekki and Body Mechanics and Physiotherapy Wellness Center.

These women with a clear vision came together to donate clothing materials and food items to the women like Ankara, cartons of sanitary towels, noodles, cartons of spaghetti, detergents, bathing soaps, mats, and insecticide coils amongst others.

The convener of EDWIIN Uri Ngozichukwuka who spoke to newsmen, mentioned an Education Trust Fund in the offing for the children. This is not the first time EDWIIN will mark international women’s Day with vulnerable women in society. In 2018 the young NGO organized the first medical outreach for women with disabilities in Lagos at the Teslim Balogun stadium.

IDP CAMPs in the country total 32 with over 3.2 million displaced people. This particular camp has 1,720 persons including 250 children born in the camp between 2016 and 2021

The event had over 200 women and 45 young women from the camp and about 18 officials represented the various NGOs that form the coalition led by Uri Ngozichukwuka of EDWIIN.
